Porter's Pedal Power

If you’ve ever watched in admiration at students cycling up Bathwick Hill then spare a thought for Rob Porter … our intrepid colleague has just returned from Ireland where he cycled the 410 miles from Mizzen Head in the South to Mallin Head in the North in just 7 days to raise money for Dorothy House Hospice Care.

And Rob is no stranger to such feats of endurance as just 2 years ago he cycled from Lands End to Bristol to raise money for the same cause. “That trip ended in disaster though as I had a crash on the last leg of the journey and ended up with a broken shoulder blade. Thankfully my supporters still paid up and we raised £545 for Dorothy House.”

This year Rob has gone the extra mile and raised £700 for the charity which will be used to help cancer patients and their families. Yvonne Brunton, Community Fundraiser said “We are delighted that Rob has chosen to support Dorothy House for a second time, especially after having such a painful experience during the last attempt! We rely on people like Rob to help us raise the £7,000 a day we need to keep our services at their present level and we are extremely grateful for his support.”

Speaking of his trip Rob said, “It was an incredible experience and very tough going in places. However, the spectacular scenery more than made up for all the aches and pains!”

Rob’s fundraising effort can still be supported; to donate please call him on 01225 448832 or email rporter@alanseward.co.uk
